چکیده

As a potential founder population of MS, the Scandinavian ethnic group is of special interest in MS genetics. Project in these countries have recently led to several reports, including associations with HLA class I, CTLA-4 and suggestive linkage to several chromosomal candidate loci. The analysis of isolated populations within Scandinavia may also prove to be rewarding.

The Growth Arrest-Specific Transcript 5 (GAS5) and Nuclear Receptor Subfamily 3 Group C Member 1 (NR3C1): Novel Markers Involved in Multiple Sclerosis

Recent studies have revealed that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are connected with pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, glucocorticoids have fundamental regulatory roles on the immune system, and act as potent therapeutic compounds for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The long noncoding RNA growth arrest-specific 5 (GAS5) which accumulates inside the cells in response...

Oligoclonal Band Status in Scandinavian Multiple Sclerosis Patients Is Associated with Specific Genetic Risk Alleles

The presence of oligoclonal bands (OCB) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a typical finding in multiple sclerosis (MS). We applied data from Norwegian, Swedish and Danish (i.e. Scandinavian) MS patients from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to search for genetic differences in MS relating to OCB status. GWAS data was compared in 1367 OCB positive and 161 OCB negative Scandinavian MS patient...

P122: Small Molecules as Chemical and Pharmacological Tools for Neuroinflammatory Diseases Treatment (with Emphasis on Multiple Sclerosis)

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neuroinflammatory disease resulting in degeneration of the myelin sheaths and death of oligodendrocytes. So far, several strategies have been introduced to control the disease. Treatment with small molecules is one of the strategies that have recently attracted the attention in the scientific community. These molecules that target epigenetic and other cellular proce...

Recent Advances and Future Challenges in the Genetics of Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common auto-inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, affecting more than 2 million individuals worldwide. It is a genetically complex disease, in which a substantial part of a person's liability to develop MS is caused by a combination of multiple genetic and non-genetic (e.g., environmental) risk factors. Increasing this complexity, many of the in...
